المبني للمجهول— The Passive Voice
The passive voice drops the فاعل and promotes the object into its place, called نائب الفاعل, always مرفوع. The past tense takes ḍamma-then-kasra (كَتَبَ → كُتِبَ), and the present tense takes ḍamma-then-fatḥa (يَكْتُبُ → يُكْتَبُ). "The student wrote the letter" (كَتَبَ الطالبُ الرسالةَ) becomes simply كُتِبَتِ الرسالةُ — "The letter was written."
